LOCAL SPORTS: Athenians, Mounties, Mustangs all win in volleyball

Southmont vs. FC football game canceled

The Southmont at Fountain Central football game has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns at Fountain Central.

Athenians defeat Clovers 

The Crawfordsville girls’ golf team defeated Cloverdale 210-229 on Thursday night.

Bailey Mittal led the Athenians with a 47, while Evie Redding fired a 51, and Gwyn Redding a 54. Sadie Walker shot a 58 and Carli Payne a 69.

Athenians fall to Mavericks

The Crawfordsville boys’ tennis team fell to McCutcheon 4-1 on Thursday night.

James Murphy picked up the lone win for the Athenians at No. 3 singles, defeating Landon Waeltz 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. At No. 1 singles Austin Motz lost to Gavin Dardeen 6-1, 6-0, while Thatcher Gambrel fell to Jake O’Donnell 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 position. 

The duo of Ziair Morgan and Zack Fichter lost to Finn Devlin and Conor Devlin 1-6, 6-0, 6-4, whle James Novak and Thomas Bowling lost 6-0, 6-0 to Blaec Lessley and Gavri Nodalo. 

Mounties fall in tennis

The Southmont boys’ tennis team fell to Terre Haute South 5-0 on Thursday.

Adam Cox lost to Canaan Sellers 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Luke Tesmer fell to Matthew Roberts 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Luke Watson was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Caleb Morris at the No. 3 position.

The duo of Micah Korhorn and Mason Hall fell to Stephen Kallubhavi and Cameron Faro 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Chayce Howell and Harrison Haddock lost 6-0, 6-1 to Walker Forsythe and Jonathon Stadler. 

Athenians beat Tiger Cubs

The Crawfordsville volleyball team came from behind to beat Greencastle 3-1 (25-27, 26-24, 25-18, 25-16).

Macy Bruton led the Athenians with 27 kills, 8 digs and 5 aces, while Alyx Bannon had 11 kills and 2 blocks. Olivia Reed had 12 digs and Laine Schlicher had 22 assists, 3 aces and 3 kills.

Chargers beat Cougars on links

The North Montgomery girls’ golf team defeated North Putnam 213-222.

Grace Littell led the Chargers as the medalist with a 47, while Morgan Swick shot a 54, and Ella Stultz and Grace Shrader each fired 56. Maggie Yeager shot a 58, while Shayna Ratcliff shot a 61 and Rylie Koopman a 63.

Chargers fall to Knights

The North Montgomery boys soccer team lost to Central Catholic 7-0.

Mustangs defeat Oracles

The Fountain Central volleyball team defeated Delphi 3-1 (25-20, 27-29, 25-17, 25-20)

Mounties down Hot Dogs

The Southmont volleyball team defeated Sagamore Conference foe Frankfort 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19).

Sidney Veatch had 34 assists, while Kaley Remley had 17 kills, Reagan Remley eight, and Natalie Manion 30 digs, and Chelsea Veatch 17.

Area teams compete at Seeger XC meet

Seeger hosted a 3K meet for freshmen and sophomores and 4K for juniors and seniors on Thursday.

Southmont’s Faith Allen won the girls’ 3K with a time of 11:48, while Rachel Rhoads was 7th in 15:48, and Grace Simpson 13th in 18:23.

Mason Cass won the boys 3K with a time of 11:05, while Aaron Evans was 3rd in 11:29. Brett Keller was 6th in 12:45, while seniors Conner Keller and Toby Casteel finished the 4K in 12th and 15th place respectively.

North Montgomery’s Elijah McCartney placed 3rd in the 4K with a time of 15:24, while Claire Bonwell was 9th in the girls 4K in 21:41, Lydia LaChance 13th in 24:46 and Hannah Littell 15th in 25:56. Kylin White was 13th in the boys 3K.

Daniel Adams led the Mustangs in the 4K with a 6th place finish in 16:45, while Justin Butts was 7th in 17:15, Carson Pietrzak 19th in 17:59, and Matthew York 14th in 21:17.

Kenna Bible placed 6th in the 4K with a time of 20:55, while Tyler Bowling was 7th in 21:04.


X
