LOCAL SPORTS: Athenians, Mustangs, Mounties all win in boys tennis

BOYS SOCCER: Mounties fall to Hot Dogs

The Southmont boys’ soccer team dropped a Sagamore Conference match 5-0 to Frankfort on Tuesday night.

“It’s the second half of each half,” Southmont coach Stephanie Kennedy said. “I don’t know if it’s that we are getting tired, or defensive breakdowns across the field. But they definitely have stepped it up, at least today in the second half.”

BOYS TENNIS: Southmont defeats Covington 

The Southmont boys’ tennis team defeated Covington 3-2 on Tuesday evening. 

Adam Cox blanked Calvin Springer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while the No. 1 doubles team of Mason Hall and Micah Korhorn downed Jackson Kendall and Emmett Reynolds 6-2, 6-1 and the duo of Chayce Howell and Harrison Haddock best Aiden Miller and Peyt Shumaker 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. 

Luke Tesmer lost 6-1, 6-0 to Evan Norton at No. 2 singles, while Luke Watson fell to Nolan Potter 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. 

Southmont is now 8-6 and travels to Greencastle today.

BOYS TENNIS: Athenians win again

The Crawfordsville boys’ tennis team won a second straight match 4-1 over Danville on Tuesday. 

Austin Motz picked you a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Luke Phillips, while Thatcher Gambrel beat Jackson Keith 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 position and James Murphy defeated Garrett Thompson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

The doubles team of Zack Fichter and Ziair Morgan beat Peyton Bickel and Nolyn Green 7-6(7-3), 6-4, while James Novak and Thomas Bowling fell to Sam Gibbons and Chase Taylor 7-6(7-4), 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

“It felt good to get another win,” Crawfordsville coach Craig Brainard said. “Singles played consistent and one doubles fought hard for their win. Two doubles came up just short, but played really well for a majority of the match.”

BOYS TENNIS: Mustangs pick up WRC win

The Fountain Central boys’ tennis team pushed its record to 9-1 with a 3-2 win over Parke Heritage on Tuesday night.

Cody Linville defeated Joel Gooch 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Sawyer Keeling earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mason Bowsher at No. 3 singles. The duo of Jacob Keeling and CJ Yager beat Garrett McCalister and Ty York 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Carson Eberly fell 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to Evan James, while Brent Myers and Brayden Prickett fell 6-4. 2-6. 7-6(4) at No. 2 doubles to Gavin Jacks and Max Dowd.

GIRLS SOCCER: Chargers back in win column

The North Montgomery girls’ soccer team picked up its seventh win of the season with a 7-2 victory over Sheridan on Tuesday.

Teegan Bacon led the Chargers with four goals, while Sidney Campbell added two and Haley Sommer one. Nina Gable, Campbell, and Lydia Dugard each had an assist, while Sydnee Turner had seven saves.

“We played a much better possession game which allowed us to get into the attack from all angels. Our defense did a better job keeping their shape and getting the ball out with direction,” North Montgomery coach Julie Hodges said.

VOLLEYBALL: Mustangs sweep Red Ramblers

The Fountain Central volleyball team swept Attica (25-11, 25-8, 25-15) on Tuesday night.

Larissa Bowers led the Mustangs with nine kills, while Chloe Golia and Shelby Marshall each added six. Lillie Fishero had 15 assists and Trinity Lindquist 11, while Jerzi Hershberger-Simmons had 13 digs and Marley Massey 10.

VOLLEYBALL: Mounties earn five-set win over Tigers

The Southmont volleyball team earned a five-set win over Lebanon on Tuesday night, defeating the Tigers 3-2 (26-24, 25-21, 15-25, 9-25, 15-9).
