LOCAL SPORTS: Crawfordsville wins 4-3 over Greencastle in boys soccer

Athenians fall to Wolves

The Crawfordsville boys’ tennis team dropped a non-conference match 3-2 to Parke Heritage on Tuesday.

James Murphy picked up at win at No. 3 singles over Max Dowd 6-4, 7-6(7-2), while the duo of Zach Fichter and Ziair Morgan downed Garrett McCalister and Mason Bowsher 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

“It seems like we are getting closer and closer every match,” Crawfordsville coach Craig Brainard said. “We had a long week between last Tuesday and today, with five matches in that stretch. I’m proud of how the guys handled it.”

Austin Motz fell 7-5, 6-2 to Evan James at No. 1 singles, while Thatcher Gambrel lost to Joel Gooch 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

James Novak and Thomas Bowling fell 6-2, 6-3 to Ty York and Gavin Jacks at No. 2 doubles.

Crawfordsville is back on the court next Wednesday at Central Catholic.

Cville beats Greencastle

The Crawfordsville boys’ soccer team went on the road Tuesday night and beat Greencastle 4-3.

Patrick Corado led the Athenians with a pair of goals, while Emmett Bowman and Dwane Macias both scored.

Kevin Barrera and Bowman each had assists, while Landon Timmons had 12 saves from the net.

Crawfordsville returns the pitch on Thursday at home against Southmont.

Patriots sweep Mustangs

The Fountain Central volleyball team was swept on Tuesday night by Seeger 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-15).

Chloe Golia led the Mustangs with eight kills, while Marley Massey had eight digs.

Fountain Central returns to the court on Thursday at home against South Newton.
