LOCAL SPORTS: Mounties win big on pitch, Athenians fall in opener

Mounties defeat Knights on pitch

The Southmont boys’ soccer team opened the season with a convincing 4-1 win over Lafayette Central Catholic on Tuesday.

Senior Beckett Jett led the Mounties with a pair of goals, while Skylar Wood and Kristian Prado both found the back of the net.

South golfers split at Deer Creek

The Southmont girls’ golf team fired a 210 at Deer Creek Golf Course on Tuesday, splitting with Tri-West (206) and Monrovia (211).

Macie Shirk fired a 47, while Taylor Grino shot a 50. Bailey Barker had a personal best 55, while Hannah Long shot a personal best of 58. Stella Snook had a 65, Olivia Gray a 66, and Courtlyn Carpenter a 68.

Athenians drop season opener to Eagles

The Crawfordsville girls’ soccer team dropped its season opener 8-0 at Faith Christian on Tuesday.

The Athenians are back on the pitch Wednesday at North Montgomery.

Trojans sweep Chargers

The North Montgomery volleyball team dropped its season opener 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-16) to Covington on Tuesday night.

The Chargers return to the court on Thursday at home against Clinton Prairie.
