Track and field champions crowned

The Crawfordsville girls track and field team left no doubt who has the dominant team in Montgomery County at Friday’s county meet. The Athenians racked up 95.5 points while second place North Montgomery scored 51.5 and Southmont scored 20.

The boys’ meet was closer with the Chargers’ depth proving to be the difference over their county rivals. The Chargers scored 65 points. Southmont recorded 55.5 points and Crawfordsville came away with 46.5 points.

The Athenian girls won 13 of 16 events.

Crawfordsville’s Sophia Melevage was a triple county champion with wins in the 800 M. (2:36.93) and 1600 M. (5:40.51). She also was a member of the winning 4x800 M. relay (10:41.84) team along with Katherine Novak, Caroline Melevage and Caroline Novak.

Katherine Novak also was a champion in the 3200 M. (12:30.28).

The Athenians won all three relay events.

Crawfordsville won the 4x100 Relay (50:88) of Lillian Hummel, Ally Strickland, Bea Swick and Alea Seward.

The Athenian 400 M. relay (4:08.13) team of Caroline Melevage, Ally Johnson, Seward and Guinevere Schmitzer-Torbert were champions.

Seward won her third championship in the 100 M. (13.6) and Schmitzer-Torbert won the 300 M. (48.08).

Crawfordsville’s Aubrey Lowe was the 100 M. Hurdles (17.43) champ.

The Athenians also dominated the field events. Campbell White won discus (15’10.75”) and Ally Johnson was the pole vault (9/0”) champion.

North Montgomery had one double champion. Ella McManomy won the 200 M. (26.61) and the 400 M. (59.9). The Chargers had eight second place finishes.

Mountie Layla Gomez was the champion in Shot Put (32’05.75”).

The Mounties had two second place finishes.

In the boys’ meet, North Montgomery had a double individual champion in Camden Claycomb. The senior won the 200 M. (23.52) and 400 M. (52.25).

The Chargers’ 4x100 relay (45.44) team of Dakoda Glasson, Hunter Hayworth, Jayden Thompson and Clayton Brown were champs.

North Montgomery’s Jack Rogers was the 1600 M. (4:55.18) champion and Andy Veselji claimed the discus (123’8”) crown.

North Montgomery earned eight second place and six third place finishes.

Southmont’s Vince Reimondo was the champion in the 800 M. (2:04.44) and 1600 M. 4:44.28). The senior also was a member of two relay teams.

Mounties Reimondo, Clay Allen, Tyler Petroski and Sam Crum won the 4.400 M. relay (3”29.60). Southmont also won the 4x800 M. relay (8:39.20) with Reimondo, Jackson Fruits, Kale Patton and Hunter Gray.

South’s Evan Watson won the 100 M. (11.66) and long jump (19’7”).

Mountie Clay Allen was the champion in pole vault (12’06”).

Southmont had three second place finishers.

Crawfordsville’s Alec Saidian was a double winner in hurdles. The senior won the 110 M. Hurdles (15.28) and 300 M. hurdles (No time reported).

Athenian Wyatt Motz won the high jump (5’06”) and Wyatt Million was the shot put (42’1”) champion.

Crawfordsville recorded five second place finishes.
