Lonnie Herbert Shelton, 82, of Crawfordsville passed away Jan. 31, 2023, at Indianapolis.
He was born April 21, 1940, at Crawfordsville, to Clifton and Minnie (Nance) Shelton. Lonnie married the love of his life, June Kay Fields, on Sept. 9, 1960, at Corinth, Mississippi.
Lonnie proudly served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 in Germany. He was a self-employed brick mason for almost 25 years and retired from Raybestos in 2006.
Lonnie was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He loved riding motorcycles, was a former member of the American Motorcycle Association and in his early years enjoyed drag racing his motorcycle.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Shelton; three sons, James Shelton (Laurie), Joseph Shelton (Paula) and Jonathon Shelton; grandchildren, Jacqueline Shelton-Fiore, Katherine Shelton, Kimberly Fiorentino, Candice Edgington, Emily Fruth, Sierra Shelton and Chance Shelton; great-grandchildren, Korbin, Kaylee Logan, Cooper, Ripley, Savannah, Xavier, Madison and Joshua Jr.; brother Thomas Shelton; and sister Nancy Phillips.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings; and granddaughter Chloe Shelton.
Visitation will be held at 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, with Pastor Chris Hortin officiating and military honors presented by the Army National Guard and American Legion Post 72. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery outside of New Market.
