LOOKING BACK: Mustangs win third sectional in four years

Ethan Woodrow helped lead Fountain Central to a third sectional title in four years in 2015 with a 61-54 win over Seeger in the sectional final.

The senior and Fountain Central all-time leading scorer led the Mustangs with 36 points in the sectional final, including a school record 8 3-pointers.

“It’s great, it’s something we’ve wanted to do since day one, and we got it done,” Woodrow told the Journal Review after the game. “When you hit shots you start feeling better and everyone starts to feed off it. You just got to catch and shoot like practice.”

Fountain Central ended the season with a 20-9 record, cruising to 80-57 and 63-35 wins over Clinton Central and Riverton Parke before meeting Seeger in the sectional final.

Kobe Pierce joined the 1,000-point club during the sectional run, added nine points in the championship game.

“We’ve put the work in all season, this is our last run and we want to go as long as we can,” he said after the game.

Fountain Central won 61 games and three sectional titles during Pierce and Woodrow’s four year careers.

The Mustangs fell the next week in the first round of the Class 2A regional to No. 3 ranked Frankton 74-58.

“Our senior class has just been great,” Fountain Central coach Jason Good said after the regional loss. “They kind of had a rough first year, but they stuck with it and just got better and better. We are getting close, we just have to create more depth.”

Matthew Heckler, Casey Walls, Clayton Corey, and Andrew Golia joined Pierce and Woodrow in the successful class of 2015.
