Lt. Colonel Robert E. Grady, 96, formerly of Veedersburg, passed away at his residence in Mooresville, Indiana, on Sunday morning Dec. 8, 2019.

Robert was born April 12, 1923, at Yeddo, Indiana, the son of William Orsmas and Ruby Harriett (Smith) Grady. He married Helen Eileen Dice on July 20, 1945, at Memphis, Tennessee. She preceded him in death.

Surviving family include: two nephews, Duane (Diana) Dice, Atlanta, Georgia, and Don (Karen) Dice, Mooresville; several cousins, Gerald Allen “Buzz” (Carol) Grady, Martha Jane Grady Kenner, Mike Thomas, Mark Thomas and Elizabeth Taylor.

Robert attended grade school in Yeddo and graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1941, he graduated from Purdue University in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He was a member of the Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland, for over 50 years.

He served his country in the United States Air Force for nearly 28 years, having served during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War as a pilot and qualified navigator of the B17 Bomber and B47 Bomber. He was stationed for many years in Japan and had also lived for many years in Bethesda. Towards the end of his military career he served in Special Ops analyzing photographed surveillance. He retired from the Air Force as Lt. Colonel on July 1, 1970.

Funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at Dickerson Funeral Home, 303 N. Main St., Veedersburg. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday, Dec. 14 at the funeral home and continue until the time of service. Burial with military honors provided by the United States Air Force will follow at Bonebrake Cemetery near Veedersburg.
