Lyle F. Bartelson, 74, of rural Waynetown passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday evening, Oct. 28, 2020, in his home.

He was born June 14, 1946, at Champaign/Urbana, Illinois, son the late Charles and Gladys Kietzman Bartelson. He married the love of his life, Sue England on Feb. 24, 1980, at the Waynetown Christian Church. She survives. Anyone that knew them well would say, they bickered like an old married couple. But, it was just an expression of love, just like the 40-plus years he made her coffee every morning.

Lyle spent his younger years living with his grandma Mable Kietzman and his uncle and aunt, Harold and Grace Lee. He returned to Hillsboro as a teenage to work on his parent’s chicken farm. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1964. He was a 45-year member of the Crawfordsville Eagles and a member of the Crawfordsville Moose.

In his spare time he enjoyed mowing yards, playing cards and making memories with his grandchildren. He would take them out for country rides in his old truck or in the golf cart. He would also take them for bike rides and they enjoyed picnics together. Lyle enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.

Surviving, along with his wife Sue, are their children, Steven “Michael” (Heather) Niece of Waynetown, Shanna Cunningham of Brazil and Ashleigh Headley of Hillsboro; five granddaughters, Albreanna (Kurtis) Bussell of Darlington, Cierra (Rick) Hockett of Waynetown, Gracie and Chesney Cunningham of Brazil and Avari “Punky” Headley of Hillsboro; three great-grandchildren, Asher and Mallorie Niece and Rikki Hockett of Waynetown; two brothers, Leon (Mildred) Bartelson of Aurora, Illinois, and Lloyd (Star) Bartelson of Frankfort, Illinois; two brothers-in-law, Paul Wayne (Linda) England of Wingate and Tom England of rural Waynetown; and several nieces and nephews.

None of us were ready for him to go but God was ready for him. He will be missed very much.

Visitation hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at Family and Friend Funeral Home of Wingate, with funeral services following at 2 p.m. Pastor Kevin Howey will officiate. Burial will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alamo Christian Church. Please follow the recommendations of the Indiana State Board of Health in regard to COVID-19.
