Understanding Forage Quality Seminar

Hay farmers are encouraged to join us on Nov. 12, at the Hoosier Heartland State Bank Success Center at 6:30-8:30 p.m. for our Understanding Forage Quality Seminar. The Indiana Forage Council and Purdue University Extension will announce the Hoosier Hay Contest Winners at the end of the seminar. Reservations are encouraged, call the Extension office.

 

PARPS

If you would like to host a PARP for customers or clientele, contact Herr with minimum of two weeks’ notice for PARP credits, three weeks for CCH credits.

• Fountain County PARP will be 8:30-11 a.m. Dec. 9 at the Fountain County Fairgrounds, 476 W. U.S. 136, Veedersburg; credits available: 1 PARP Point and CAT 1, 11, 14 and RT.

• Tippecanoe County PARP will be 8:30-11 a.m. Dec. 11 at the Tippecanoe County Extension Office, 1950 S. 18th St., Lafayette; credits available: 1 PARP Credit and CAT 1, 11, 14 and RT.

 

Blossoming Prosperity

Monday evenings: Jan. 20 and 27, and Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2025, 6-9 p.m. third floor training area of Fusion 54, 101 W. Main St. and virtually. Dinner provided.

Purdue Extension is pleased to offer a six-week workshop for new or experienced cut flower growers on Monday evenings Jan. 20 through Feb. 2, 2025.

This workshop series will introduce and implement risk management skills for new and experienced cut flower growers. The course will focus on developing skills in new business development, financial management, strategic marketing, competitive production practices, and liability geared toward sustainable growth, that is applicable or any small farm or agritourism business.

Participants will hear from keynote speakers who will be streamed live to dozens of workshop sites throughout the state of Indiana. Each site will also host local speakers and hands-on activities. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions of local extension experts while learning business skills and best practices to improve their cut flower businesses.

The workshop costs $65 per person and participants should plan to attend each session. A virtual option is available for those who are unable to attend a workshop site, although in-person attendance is highly encouraged to better network with other attendees and to interact with speakers.

Hosts sites in these sessions include: Boone, Montgomery, Warrick, Hancock, Clark, Lake/Porter, Johnson/Morgan, Steuben and Allen counties.

Leaving a Lasting Legacy for Farm Women

Tuesdays evenings: Jan. 21 to Feb. 11, 2025, second floor of Fusion 54. Dinner provided.

This four-session workshop series will guide farmers and family members learn more about succession opportunities available to them and actionable steps to take to begin or continue the process to successfully pass the farm and business assets to the next generation or new operator. Dinner will be provided, cost is TBD.

Topics are: Motivation for Succession Planning, Jan. 21; Communicating About Estate and Transition Planning, Jan. 28, Financial Aspects of Estate and Transition Plans, Feb. 4; and Legal- Putting Your Plan into Place, Feb. 11.

 

Virtual Master Gardener Basic Training in Spring 2025

Classes will be held on held 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 4 through May 6, 2025. We will meet as a local group 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays then join the statewide lesson. It is the same 40-hour educational course, just offered completely online. If you are interested, call the extension office. Registration will open Dec. 3.
