Maple Grove Extension Homemakers

With 10 members present, we met at Tremaine Park in Waynetown for our monthly meeting. We were all looking forward to being together for a pitch-in picnic. The weather had been so hot but today it turned cool and the wind blew and we all cuddled close together. We had the tablecloths tied together so they would not blow away. Even though it was chilly, we still had a great time. One member made a trip home to get sweaters to share with members and we were all glad to have one. Judy McBride opened the meeting by welcoming ten members and she also said her goodbye as president. The pledges to the flags were led by Linda Miller and members recited the Homemaker’s Creed and the Mission Statement. Roll call was answered by “if you weren’t a Hoosier, in what state would you live?” We did not have any birthdays and Betty Jeffers and Claudine Whalen did have anniversaries. The minutes of the May meeting were read by the secretary, Sandy Lightle and
approved. McBride gave the treasurer report in the absence of Jeffers. Cards were signed for Jeffers and Christi Craft. Old business consisted of discussion on the Home & Family Conference that was held on June 1-3. Judy Tulley said a donation by the steps they walked were given to Charity for Cancer Research at Purdue. All the money they receive is by donation and Maple Grove’s donation was $61. She also talked about ways membership could be increased. New business consisted of discussing the 4-H Fair coming up on July 16-21. Open Class check in is between 4-5:30 p.m. July 15 and 7-8 a.m. July 16. The judging should be finished by 10 a.m. and the set up should be finished by noon Friday. The volunteers that are scheduled to work the 4-H Fair on July 20 were reminded of their times. IEHA District Meeting will be held Aug. 18 at The Gathering Place in Covington. The registration cost will be $15 and Jeffers needs the registration fee by July 15 so she can meet her deadline. The Health and Safety report was given by Eileen Matricia and was on balance and there was a lot of discussion to follow on the subject. The installation of officers was conducted by McBride and each new officer received flowers. President is Sandra Lightle (red roses), vice president is Carol Vice (pink roses), secretary/publicity is Rita Kirkpatrick (yellow roses), treasurer is Betty Jeffers (white roses), health/safety is Eileen Matricia (daisies), membership is Minnie Howard (pansies) and song leaders are Carol Crowder and Linda Miller (tulips).

In closing the members recited the Club Collect. The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. July 19 and will be at the Waynetown Baptist Church and will be hosted by Lou Rosen. We all had a good time at the picnic and we had plenty to eat and then some. There was plenty of good fellowship and tons of laughs.
