Maple Grove Extension Homemakers

Posted

The Maple Grove Homemakers met at 12:30 p.m. June 20 at the New Richmond Community Center with 12 members present, and our guest speakers Sandy Brown and Tricia Herr. This was a pitch-in luncheon and there was a lot of good food. President Sandra Lightle led us in the Pledge to the American Flag, Christian Flag, Creed and Mission Statement. Our inspiration was given by Minnie Howard and she reminded us that there are a lot of mean things that go on around us, however, there are still a lot of good people in our area to help you when the need arises.

Roll call was answered by “a fruit beginning with the letter of your first name.” Montgomery County Extension Staff member Tricia Herr, Ag & Natural Resource Educator, presented a program on how she scouts fields for farmers and she also checks gardens and will have suggestions on what needs to be done with soil. If anyone needs help they can give her a call and she will be happy to assist them. She answered several questions that were presented to her and it was a very informative program.

Our health and safety lesson was given by Sandy Brown on patient care and things we need to do. She advised that a physician assistant is good when you cannot see a doctor or to use urgent care when you need help and are not able to see a doctor, always take a note book and write down your symptoms and questions for the doctor, and you can also use it to write down what the doctor has to say.

The secretary report was read by Rita Kirkpatrick. The treasurer’s report was given by Betty Jeffers. Short reports were given by members attending conference and they talked about some of the fun things that were available to do such as going to the Fan Factory, an author discussed her books, ways for each of us to down size as well as attending the meeting. A melody concert was performed at the Noblesville United Methodist Church by Crescendos. All those attending agreed the conference was a good meeting and they all had a great time.

The 4-H Fair will be July 15-21 and everyone was informed about open class and when your entries would be due and the registration cost. If you did not get a brochure on open class you can get the information from the Extension Office. Your exhibits need to be checked in on Thursday, July 14 between 4-5:30 p.m. or Friday, July 15 between 7-8 a.m. Workers from our club are scheduled to work from 12:30-3 p.m. and 3-5:30 p.m. July 16. Our community service project last month was the collection of three pounds of pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. This month we collected food items for FISH that will be delivered. Martha Swick, chairman of books, has asked that each club donate 16 new books for the Head Start program. Our new club books for the upcoming year were passed out along with a correction sheet. A sign-up sheet was passed around for everyone to pick a month to be a hostess or inspiration leader for this year.

Judy McBride discussed the upcoming Fall District Meeting to be held Aug. 24 at the Whitesville Christian Church. There will be a planning meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 11. The cost of the district meeting will be $14 and this will include your lunch. For Maple Grove members the registration fee needs to be to Jeffers by Aug. 1. This meeting includes eight counties surrounding Montgomery County. The theme will be Scatter Kindness and since Montgomery County will be celebrating 200 years, they are looking for memorabilia to represent the County through the years. It was requested that if you have things from the past that you would like to donate for this event, please get in contact with McBride. Song leaders Carol Crowder and Linda Miller led us in singing “My Country Tis of Thee.”

The meeting was adjourned by the club reciting the Club Prayer.

Next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. July 18 at Lightle’s home.
