Mapping director begins duties

The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners has hired Mike Davis to the new position of mapping director.

Davis was serving as the geographic information coordinator for the county. He has worked for the county for 24 years. Davis started as chief deputy in the surveyor’s office where he was responsible for digitizing the legal drains in the county. He then worked in the building department as a building inspector and helped created the mapping division which was responsible for creating digital maps for properties in the county.

“I want to thank the Board of Commissioners for this opportunity,” Davis said, “and I look forward to improving our services for our residents and staff.”

At the end of 2020, the commissioners created the mapping department to coordinate the efforts throughout the county for geospatial layers on the digital mapping system. Some of the layers include parcel information, a map of sex offenders, roads, culverts, bridges and utility infrastructure. The public information is available through the Beacon website.

The department also provides mapping services for the City of Crawfordsville though an interlocal agreement with the county.

Davis is married, has three sons and two grandchildren. He enjoys rooting for Indiana University basketball and spending time with his grandchildren.
