Martha M. (Maxwell) Routh was born Dec. 20, 1948, to the late Marvin W. and Elizabeth Jane (Doty) Maxwell, and grew up in Darlington. She was the only daughter of four children. Her brothers, Jamie (Cathy) and Michael Maxwell survive. Her brother Stephen preceded her in 1984.
She married Melvin O. Routh of New Ross on May 23, 1970. He preceded her in death in 2012.
She lived the rest of her life as a resident of New Ross and raised a son, Michael A. (Kimberly), and was a bonus mom to Charles “Chuck” (Janine), Lori (Tracey) and Stacy Routh. She was also the proud “Mamaw” to Mary Abigail “Abbey,” Courtney, Rene, Chris, Matt and Liz and nine great-grandchildren.
Marty worked in food service at the former Indiana Children’s Christian Home in Ladoga for several years before it closed, then Lithonia Lighting in Crawfordsville. Cooking was not only her chosen career but her love language. She enjoyed canning and trying new recipes and baking for her loved ones. She had an immense love for animals and people alike. She sold her homemade dog biscuits to the local community and their canines. Marty never showed up empty-handed to an event or even a doctor’s appointment without a homemade treat for those close to her. She was so very loved by everyone around her and will be sincerely missed.
She was active in the Walnut Township Community Association and New Ross Christian Church social group.
Much love and gratitude go to Marty’s nieces Julia and Jessica for their unwavering support and care during the past few years.
Donations in memory of Martha Routh may be made to the New Ross Christian Church.
