Marvin L. Spear Jr., 53, of New Richmond/Elmdale, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, at  Franciscan Health Hospital Greenwood.

He was born in Beech Grove, son of Marvin Spear Sr. and Donna Louise Sosbe Spear. He married Cary Brown in Crawfordsville on July 17, 2017. She survives.

Marvin was a 1984 graduate of Greenwood High School and raised in the Baptist faith. He was employed as a machinist in Indianapolis, until complications from his kidney transplant prevented him from working full-time. He had worked part-time as a caseworker for ASI as well as caregiver for his wife.   

Marvin was a very kind-hearted and helpful person. He was always willing to help someone and would give the shirt off his back if someone was in need. He was a loving son and brother. He loved to hunt/fish, work on cars and guns. 

Surviving are: wife Carey Brown Spear of Elmdale; mother Donna Sosbe Spear of Texas; father Marvin (Cindy) Spear Sr. of New Richmond; step-son Kelton Jackson; sisters, Tammy (William) Streib of New Whiteland and Laurina Rumbaugh of Hutto, Texas; step-sisters, Lori (Greer) Jordan of Attica and Amanda (Josh) Anderson of Greenfield; special aunt and uncle, Diana (Tracy) Hutton of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, with funeral services following at 1 p.m., with Pastor Chris Hortin officiating, at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Burial will follow in New Richmond Cemetery.
