Mary Jane McFadden Sering, 97 1/2, of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, at Rosewalk Village, Lafayette, after a brief stay.

Mary Jane graduated from Crawfordsville High School. She then worked at both the Vanity and Strand Theaters. She also worked as a proofreader at the former R.R. Donnelley & Sons in the 1940s. She returned there as a Golden Task Force later in life to work at the Elmore Street facility. She worked at a day care, took care of three children for two local teachers and cared for the elderly. Foremost, she was a homemaker.

Mary Jane was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was born Aug. 2, 1923, at Ralston, Oklahoma, to Raymond Andrew and Birdie Irene (Fadling) McFadden. She married Donald W. Sering on Nov. 6, 1948. They were married 67 years before he passed.

Survivors include all their four children, Cappi (Bob) Chafey, Donna Props, Debra Catterson and Dan (Sheila) Sering; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She also had numerous nieces and nephews who she loved like her own children.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by all her sisters, N. Irene Morrow, Ruth Budd, Mary Frances Long, Ethel Deck and Florence Fultz.

Mary Jane was a member of the First Christian Church, Crawfordsville. Her memberships included the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries.

Mary Jane enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, tatting, quilting, reading, playing Bingo and riding her exercise bike.

A private family service will take place at a later date. Hunt & Son Funeral Home is assisting the family.
