Mary Lou Mornout, 97, from Veedersburg passed away April 23, 2021.

Mary Lou was born Sept. 23, 1923, at Crawfordsville, to Niles and Lucille (Ward) Evans. Following graduation from Covington High School in 1941 she married Ralph W. (Jack) Mornout on July 4, 1941, and shared 61 years together until Jack’s death in 2002. Their son, Kerry Mornout, preceded her in death in 1999.

Surviving are her grandson, Andrew Mornout (Dallas, Texas); daughter-in-law Claudia Williams Mornout (San Diego, California), nieces, Dr. Debra (Ken Ling) Sally (Clear Lake, California), Valerie (Frank) Mannella (Cape Coral, Florida), and Karen Evans (Grass Valley, Califronia); nephews, William (Linda) Evans (Scottsdale, Arizona, Tom Evans (Roseville, California), James Evans (Roseville, California) and Charles (Charlene) Mornout (Bismark, Illinois).

Mary Lou was a devoted wife and mother, relishing every minute with her family. She enjoyed working in their yard and flower garden, tending her orchids, watching birds who were guests in their yard. Her other hobbies were crafting, working in stained glass with Jack, playing cards, bingo, shuffle board, golf and eating out with family and friends.

Mary Lou and Jack moved from Covington to Veedersburg after Jack returned from serving in World War II. She was a member of the Veedersburg Methodist Church since 1947 and various other philanthropic and social groups. They wintered in Sarasota, Florida, after Jack retired as West Central Indiana Co-op manager in 1980.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with visitation one hour prior to the service. She will be buried next to her husband and son at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Veedersburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 155, Veedersburg, IN 47987.
