The Crawfordsville Country Club hosted a premier golf tournament for some of the best young golfers in the state on Monday. The Indiana Golf Foundation held one of their age group tournaments at the CCC with over 60 golfers from around the state in attendance in ages ranging from 7-19.
Southmont was represented well by both Austin Foley and Addison Meadows who competed in their respective 16-19 divisions. Both Meadows and Foley would end up taking home the top spot in their age groups as both of the Mounties fired 76’s to claim the top spots in what were not great golfing conditions. The temperature barely cracked 60 and the wind made things feel like it was in the mid-low 50’s.
Foley is just entering the off-season after an impressive showing at the IHSAA Regional at Coyote Crossing where he shot a the best out of the everyone of the county players competing with an 83. Meadows has ramped up her tournaments as she begins her prep for a fourth straight state finals appearance.
“Playing on your home course does give you an advantage but I knew that I still had to come out and have a great round,” Foley said. “The conditions weren’t great but I was able to battle through them and played golf and turned into a good day.”
For Meadows it marks the second tournament win this off-season. The front nine was not kind to Meadows as she shot a +7. However as great golfers do, she put the rough start in the rear-view mirror and played the back nine -1 to end up with her 76.
“I’m just a lot more comfortable with the back nine here because it’s what we play during the school season,” she said. “It wasn’t ideal starting out the front nine going seven over, but I’m perfectly ok with shooting a 76 and being able to shoot that well on the back.”
The Country Club tournament is just the beginning of a very busy off-season for both Meadows and Foley who have plenty of other tournaments lined up this summer.
“It’s going to be a lot of golf,” Foley said. “I’ve really played some really good golf this past month with the end of the high school season and now into the summer. I’m just hoping that continued and I’m able to continue to get better. That’s the plan is to play as much as I can.”
“This summer I’m really just focusing on my swing more than my actual scores,” Meadows added. “I know that those scores will come with my swing and if I’m able to get my swing where I want it, I know I can be competitive when state rolls around in the fall.”
The duo represented the Mounties well. Both have their eyes on much bigger goals when their respective seasons roll around again. Meadows senior season begins in late July while Foley’s junior year will begin next spring.
