Addison Meadows is determined to make it back to the state finals again this season. She and the Mounties along with Crawfordsville and North Montgomery competed in the annual Mountie Invite on Saturday at the Crawfordsville Country Club. Meadows, as she has in most meets this season, earned individual medalist honors by shooting the low score of a 74.

Southmont as a team placed third overall with a 396. Brownsburg’s junior varsity team won the invitational with a 346.

Along with Meadows’s 74, Southmont’s Stella Snook shot a 101 with Kelsey Thompson shooting a 105. Parker Church rounded out the scoring with a 116 for the Mounties.

“I had a goal of 390 today, but overall the last couple of weeks we’ve really seen our scores start to come down,” Southmont coach Bill Whalen said. “The girls have done a better job of putting when they got on the green and that had been what’s been hurting our scores. They’re starting to see how important that short game really is.”

For Meadows the day didn’t get off to the best start as she triple bogeyed her second hole of the day. However the sophomore standout didn’t let that phase her and ended the day at that same score of +3.

“That’s really what I was most proud of her of how she responded after that bad hole,” Whalen said. “She understands it’s a grind and she knows she’ll make up for it. Her mental game is so good that she doesn’t let that get to her. I’ve also told her that I’m more proud of her attitude this year than what she’s shooting. She’s our leader as only a sophomore and you can see her maturing a ton from last year and that’s what’s most impressive about her.”

North Montgomery placed sixth overall with a 422. Grace Littell led the Chargers with a 98 while Grace Shrader recorded a 104. Shayana Ratcliff carded a 107, Maggie Yeager a 113, and Bella Priddy rounded out the scoring with a 130.

“I’m happy with Grace’s 98 today,” Charger coach Bob Ryker said. “That was a good start for her and we know that she can shoot 90 or even below that. As a team we have four girls that are capable of shooting below 100 and if we do that, then I think we’ll get out of the sectional. I’ve told them from the start that we have the potential, it’s just how bad do we want it.”

The focus for the Chargers moving forward continues to be their short game according to Ryker. He did note how he’s starting to see real improvements in that area for his team.

“Maggie Yeager chipped in back-to-back holes today so I’m starting to see our short game get a lot better,” he said. “Our girls are putting in the work to get better and that’s encouraging to see.”

Crawfordsville had an overall great round according to coach Tony Thomas. The Athenians score of 439 was the best any Cville team has shot at the Country Club as they placed seventh right behind North Montgomery. Sadie Walker led the way for CHS with a 104 while Carli Payne shot a 108. Christen Saunders shot a 113, Gabby Warren a 114, and McKenzie Wilson a 120.

“We’ve really been starting to play really well and consistent the last week and that’s a great sign,” Thomas said. “Our goal is get four of girls to shoot under 50 on the same night at one point this year. This morning Gabby ran three miles at cross country meet at Fountain Central and McKenzie worked six hours in a factory so they both gassed out at a point but I;’m proud of both of them for even playing 18-holes after that. This course has been a little rough on us, but all in all they played really well.”
