Melvin E. Davidson of Alamo passed away Sunday afternoon, April 5, 2020, at Ben Hur Health. He was 90.

Mr. Davidson was proud of his volunteerism. He volunteered and served in the Navy from 1947 to 1951 as a radio operator on the USS Norton Sound.  He was captain of the Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Dept. Station 10 in the late 60s and early 70s. He also served many years as President of the Alamo Town Board.

Born Dec. 13, 1929, at Williamsport, he was the son of Edwin R. Davidson and Frances E. Cottrell Davidson. He worked at Bryant Heating and Air and later for the Crawfordsville VFW. He married Marjorie J. Plummer on Jan. 6, 1950, at the Clermont Christian Church. She passed away Oct. 19, 2007.

Surviving family includes: son Jimmie M. Davidson of Alamo; daughter Nancy Rodenbeck (Mark) of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren, Paula Davidson, Ben Davidson, Abigail Covington (Austin) and Betsy Rodenbeck; two great-grandchildren, Ava Covington and Adele Covington; two sisters, Betty Truax (Johno’) and Barbara Cotton; two special friends who have been very helpful over the years, Jan Edwards and David “Fats” Yeagley.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Karen Davidson; brother Edwin T. Davidson and his wife, Jan; brother-in-law William Cotton; and niece Penny Truax Earl.

Visitation will be from 12:30-2 p.m. Thursday, April 9 at Burkhart Funeral Home. Due to the current health crisis, there will only be a limited number of people allowed in the building at a time. Services for the family will begin at 2 p.m., followed by interment at Alamo Cemetery.
