Michael Scott Burns, 71, of Crawfordsville passed away at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, following a short illness in Franciscan Health Hospital, Lafayette.
Mike was born April 21, 1953, in Lafayette, to the late Glen James and Irma G. Jordan Burns. He married Jill Ann Lawrence on June 26, 1976, in in Francesville. She survives.
Mike was a 1971 graduate of West Central High School, Francesville, where he was a football standout. He attended Manchester College where he played football two years before transferring to Ball State University where he graduated in 1975 with a business degree. He went on to earn his CPA designation.
Mike was first employed in Crawfordsville by Mid States Wire as a CPA, he later was hired as Controller at Happico Manufacturing in Greencastle until it closed. He then worked as an independent consultant until he suffered a debilitating heart attack in 2008. He worked parttime for a few years at Home Depot.
Mike was a frequent visitor at the Moose Lodge and American Legion where he enjoyed the banter. He was a hardworking family man, who seldom missed his son’s events. He enjoyed taking his sons fishing and hunting mushrooms.
Surviving, along with his wife Jill, are three sons, Philip (fiancé Stephanie Hines), Eric Burns and Brian Burns, all of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Jim Burns of Lafayette and Ralph (Sandy) Burns of Rockville; and sister-in-law Patty Burns of Winamac.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Steve; and sister Terry.
Mike’s family will greet guests from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, followed by a celebration of life service at 1 p.m. at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate.
