Bearded Comics & Collectibles is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a mini comic convention from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, featuring artists, vendors, raffles and character meet-and-greets.
Published comic book artists Stuart Sayger and Gavin Smith will be on-site for signings and will have art prints and comics available for purchase. Sayger, whose credits include “Transformers,” “Conan the Barbarian,” “Evil Dead” and “Joker,” recently completed a new cover wrap for a coverless copy of “X-Men #94,” which will be raffled off as a one-of-a-kind collectible. Smith, known for his work on “Godzilla” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” is contributing a custom sketch of Super Shredder on a blank variant cover, which will also be raffled.
The first 100 attendees will receive an Easter egg, one of which contains the grand prize, a $50 graded comic slab. Raffle tickets will be handed out at the door, and drawings for the artist sketch items and other prizes will be conducted live on Facebook after the event.
The shop at 101 E. Main St. is expanding the celebration into the vacant building next door to host 15 vendors selling comics, toys, trading cards, handmade collectibles and books. Featured vendors include comic and trading card sellers, an artist offering crocheted stuffed animals and representatives from Geek Meet Indianapolis and the Indy Editorial Comic Expo.
Local authors will also be in attendance, including Chris Hunt, known for his ghost tours, and thriller and horror novelist Charles Savage.
Several comic book characters will be available throughout the day for photos and meet-and-greets. Spider-Man will appear from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Red Ranger from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Deadpool from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Spider-Man and Mary Jane will make a special joint appearance from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Cosplaying is welcomed, but not required.
