A missing Crawfordsville woman and her infant son were found safe Friday in Boone County.
Earlier on Friday, the Crawfordsville Police Department and the family of 28-year-old Lindsey Cox learned she had returned to the Crawfordsville area, but shortly afterward, she left again.
Deputies with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and officers with the Lebanon Police Department located Cox and her seven-month-old son, John Cox. The mother and child were with John Byrer, 65, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Byrer is Cox’s boyfriend and father of her son. Police met with Cox in person and confirmed she and her child’s safety.
Earlier this month, Guy Cox reported his sister, Lindsey, and infant nephew missing from the home they shared in Crawfordsville. Guy Cox told police he had not seen the two since the morning of Dec. 1 when she left to run an errand. Guy Cox believed they were in danger when they did not return and her car was found abandoned.
In October, Byrer was arrested in Oklahoma on charges of child stealing and battery by strangulation. Lindsey Cox and her son are listed as victims in those court documents. Guy Cox said the events that occurred in October caused his sister to flee to Indiana with her son.
Byrer, who was released on bond, is due in court Monday in Oklahoma to face those charges.
Lindsey Cox told police Friday that she was safe and wanted privacy for her and her son.
In a press release issued Friday, the Crawfordsville Police Department thanked several agencies that aided in locating the pair, including the Montgomery County Central Communications Center, Blackford County Sheriff’s Office, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Lebanon Police Department, Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center, Indiana Clearinghouse, Broken Arrow (Oklahoma) Police Department, Tulsa (Oklahoma) Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Tulsa County (Oklahoma) District Attorney’s Office.
