Days after winning grand championships at the Montgomery County 4-H Fair, 11-year-old Kennedy Mitchell was back home in the barn getting her sheep ready for the state fair.
Mitchell, a two-year member of 4-H, showed the grand champion market and ewe lambs at the sheep show. Another of her ewes received reserve grand champion.
She built onto the successes from last year, when she showed the grand champion ewe and reserve grand champion market to an empty arena due to the coronavirus pandemic. Her entire family was able to watch from the stands this year.
“I liked how my whole family was behind my back the whole time,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell has been showing sheep since the age of 3 and has won a number of champions over the years in open shows. She is the daughter of Matt and Michele Mitchell of Waveland and belongs to the Brown Lucky Leaf 4-H club.
She also shows goats and participates in the baking and crops 4-H programs.
