Southmont cross country has had it’s fair share of individual success in the last few seasons. On the girls side Faith Allen has been the standout leader while on the boys side Mason Cass, who qualified for the Regional a season ago is another standout for the Mounties.
This year with Allen being a senior and Cass entering his junior year, expectations are high as coach Shelley Allen looks to both of them to lead the way.
“I expect both of them to have an amazing year,” Allen said. “Hopefully they’ll be able to accomplish all of the goals they set out for themselves.”
Other runners to keep an eye on for the Mounties include Aaron Evans, Hunter Alesi and Riley Mitton for the boys. Heaven Smith and Darby Cottrell are names to keep an eye out for on the girls side for the Mounties this upcoming season.
“I look to see solid performances from all of those of guys,” Allen said. “They’ve put in the work and hopefully the results will come as a result.”
The goals for the Mounties and Allen continue to be high with the talent that the both teams have. After placing second behind county rival Crawfordsville a season ago Allen wants to bring a county title back home to the Mounties.
“I’m hoping we can place pretty high in both county and conference,” she said. “With the way the boys have been practicing I’m expecting to see some team wins as well. I’d also love it if we could take a team to the Regional.”
The goals and expectations have been set for the Mounties. It’s now time to go out on the course and see if they can meet them. Southmont will get its season underway on Saturday as they compete in the Clinton Prairie Invite.
