Boys Tennis Preview

Mountie tennis with same high expectations

Southmont boys tennis continued their area dominance a season ago. The team dominated their way through the Sagamore Conference defeating all opponents 5-0 en route to their first SAC crown since 1991. However in the sectional, the Mounties were bested by Parke Heritage and were denied a third straight sectional title.

This season with the return of six of their seven players from a season ago including the JR boys tennis player of the year in Adam Cox, the expectations are again high for this Mountie team.

Cox advanced all the way the Regional Final and ended with a record of 18-2 last season. Along with Cox, Luke Tesmer and Luke Watson return at two and three singles for the Mounties while Caden Jones and Mason Hall return at one doubles with Chayce Howell and Harrison Haddock likely manning the two doubles spot.

“Adam and Luke have really set the tone for us and have worked all off-season,” Southmont coach Nathan Poynter said. Our expectations remain very high. I think we’ll be a much more mentally tough team this year. Our mental game is what our success will rely on.”

The Mounties also have the overall team goal of getting back to the Regional after missing out last season.

With the talent on this team and another season of experience under all of their belts, there’s no questioning that Southmont is poised to make a deep post-season run.
