Mountie VB honors seniors with sweep of Wolves

Posted

Southmont Volleyball hosted another sectional opponent in Parke Heritage on Thursday as the Mounties honored their six seniors in Brady Spencer, Chelsea Veatch, Regan Remley, Kali Todd, Dara Watson, and Tayler Anderson for senior night. It’d end up being a happy senior night with the Mounties coming away with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-14, 26-24) over the Wolves.

“These seniors have worked their tails off these last four years and it was fun to honor them with a win tonight,” Southmont coach Erin Barry said. “All six of these girls have done whatever I’ve asked of them. They’ve been tremendous leaders and have held each other accountable. They’ve made this season their season and it’s something that’s been awesome to watch.”

Spencer ended the evening with four aces with Remley and Anderson both adding 10 digs. Veatch tallied eight digs of her own while adding 12 kills. Mallory Mason notched 27 assists with Watson added eight kills and Todd getting a pair of blocks.

The Wolves are yet another sectional opponent that the Mounties have been able to defeat. They’ve gone a perfect 4-0 against their sectional opponents this season and with post-season on the horizon. Barry is loving what she’s seeing from her team.

“These girls are just very determined to win,” she said. “They came with one of their goals winning more games than last year and they’ve done that and much more. I haven’t seen them back down really from many opponents that we’ve played. It doesn’t matter who is on the opposite end of the court. It’s obviously nice to beat another sectional team because that gives them the confidence they need. I know I’ve said it a ton but they’re just a very determined group that isn’t going to let anything get in the way.”

The Mounties improve to 11-11 on the season and will hit the road to take on Seeger on Tuesday before wrapping up their season competing in the North Montgomery Invite next Saturday.

Southmont will find out their sectional path for the Class 2A Sectional 44, which is hosted by Greencastle, on Sunday evening.
