Mounties hoping for bounce back vs Tigers

Posted

Southmont football suffered its first loss of the season last Friday in a 38-7 loss to Western Boone. The 6-1 (4-1 SAC) Mounties now welcome the Lebanon Tigers to New Market on Friday for a battle of two of the SAC’s top teams. Lebanon comes with a record of 5-2 (4-1 SAC) as the Mounties and Tigers are two of the of the four teams (Tri-West and Western Boone) that are tied for the SAC lead.

“I think our guys understand the challenges that Lebanon presents,” Southmont coach Desson Hannum said. “This is a team that beat Tri-West earlier in the season. They can be an explosive offense and have some really good athletes that can take it to the house on any play For us it comes back to understanding what we have to do on both sides of the football and really being efficient on offense.”

The Tigers are led on offense by senior quarterback Landon Fouts. Fouts is third in the SAC with 1,204 yards through the air with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Fouts’ leading receiver is sophomore speedster Kaden Lark who has 498 yards (2nd in the SAC) and five trips to the endzone. Carson Toole is the leading rusher for the Tigers with 411 yards and nine touchdowns with fellow ball carrier Brendan Shockley tallying 303 yards.

A week ago, the Mounties mustered just 92 total yards. This week Hannum knows his team will have to execute better if they are to get back in the win column.

“We have to get back to just winning on first down,” Hannum said. “It starts with that and we can’t have too many negative plays. Last week we just put ourselves in bad situations and it cost us.”

It will also be senior night for the Mounties as they honor their eight seniors. Combining senior night with the magnitude of a big-time SAC matchup and it’s set to be a great atmosphere at Southmont on Friday.
“It’s going to be a special night to get to recognize those guys that have meant so much to this program,” Hannum said. “You couple that with a matchup of two very good teams and we know it’s going to be another tall task. We just have to come out ready to play.”

Southmont and Lebanon will get things going at 7 pm at Southmont. You can catch a live broadcast of the game on True Country 106.3 WCDQ with Jared McMurry and Barry Lewis beginning at 6:30.
