Mounties looking to build off last season

Posted

It was a struggle for Southmont volleyball a season ago which is something that the program isn’t quite used to after their successes over the last 4-5 years. The Mounties went just 3-18 a season ago, but the good news is Southmont will bring nearly every starter back from that team as they look to improve.

The Mounties will feature a very senior-oriented team with six seniors including Chelsea Veatch,  and Regan Remley.

Erin Berry returns for her second season and knows that experience will pay off on the court.

“That experience will be big for us this year,” she said. “I think their leadership and communication skills will really be key for us this year.”

Regan Remley returns as the kills leader for Southmont this season. Chelsea Veatch also returns as she was second on the team with 99 kills a season ago.

Berry has also been impressed with how serious her team is with putting in the work in the off-season to make sure they’re ready to go for game one.

“They’ve all worked so hard this summer and at the beginning of season practices. I have been impressed by their work ethic and positive attitudes.”

Those returning members remember the difficult season that the team went through a year ago. That has also been a key motivator for setting their goals higher this year. Berry noted a few of the goals that the team has talked about wanting to achieve.

“We’ve talked a lot about goals for this season,” she said. “They are very motivated and driven by them.  First, we want to improve on our record. They have a couple of areas of their game they want to improve on and we’ve been focused on those areas in practice.  There’s always a few titles that we’d like to win along the way as well.”

Southmont opens up it’s 2022 season on Tuesday for it’s home opener when they host North Vermillion.
