Splash of Color

Mural coming to downtown Crawfordsville

A downtown Crawfordsville alley is getting a splash of color as part of a regional public art project.

A mural will be painted on the side of the Montgomery County Community Foundation building beside Milligan’s Flowers & Gifts in late September by New York City artist Jenna Morello.

The painting was commissioned by Lafayette-based Tippecanoe Arts Federation, which has partnered with area groups to add public art in rural communities. Murals were unveiled last month in Veedersburg, Covington and Attica.

The art is being funded through a $150,000 fund from the Wabash Heartland Innovation Network.

A local committee selected Morello from a portfolio of national artists provided by the arts federation. Morello has done public art in downtown Lafayette.

“Our alley has a lot of foot traffic and it’s always a place for senior photos and prom photos,” said Kelly Taylor, CEO of MCCF.

More information about the mural will be released at a later date. The public will have an opportunity to watch Morello paint.

The alley between MCCF’s building and Milligan’s will be closed from Sept. 25-Oct. 5 while Morello is on site.
