NCPS robotics teams scrimmage to practice skills

The Robotics Teams at North Central Parke Schools held a scrimmage recently to showcase their robots and to practice their robotic skills.

Team members from Parke Heritage Middle School, Rockville Elementary and Turkey Run Elementary faced off against each other.

During the scrimmage, the squads moved their robots along a field to move squares and balls in an attempt to score points. The VEX IQ Challenge Squared Away is played on a 4 ft. x 8 ft. rectangular field. Two robots compete in the Teamwork Challenge for 60-second long teamwork matches. Each match consists of two partners working together to complete the challenge. Each partner must have a turn at moving the robot about the field.

Turkey Run Elementary has two teams that have competed. Team members are Ella Vandivier, Laney Crowder, Jase Bowles, Cade Hoover, Oakden Sapp, Mackenzie Gillogly, Lucas Hayes, Mia Bowles, Abby Mathis, Ashlyn Gillogly, Samantha Mikus, Tori Harmon, Madison Reath and Addison Ramsay. They are coached by Alicia Mathis.

Team members for the three Rockville Elementary teams are Alexis McAmis, Hayden Holcomb, Leah Maupin, Sam Baldwin, Haley Holtsclaw, Jackson Jenkins, Mason Larson, Mason Wilcox, Cian Todd, Dylan Jackson, Stephen Jessee, Haileigh Antrim, Ava Berry, Keegan Myers and Lucas Busenbark.

Representing Parke Heritage Middle School are team members Henry Busenbark, Justin Cooper, Colvin Feldhake, Drew Lough, Logan Smith, Carson Rolison, Rylee Keil, Brooke Lough and Makayla Ricketts.

Each team has assembled their own robots for their use. The team members must design, maintain and compete with their own robot. Both TRES and RES teams attended the Blue Devil State Qualifier in Brazil. Both schools had teams that made it into the final round.

Funding for the robotics teams comes from the school’s Title IV grant, International Paper, TechPoint Youth Foundation and an anonymous business donor.
