New leaders take charge at local agencies

New leaders came on board at local agencies in 2019.

Crawfordsville District Public Library and the Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce hired new directors.

Theresa Tyner was named the library’s director after serving the same role in Danville, Illinois. Before moving across the state line, Tyner held management positions at various Indiana libraries.

“I firmly believe that library services should complement what’s going on in the community and be community focused, so I can’t do that in a vacuum,” Tyner said before her duties officially began in July.

The search for a new Chamber director ended with the hiring of Cassie Hagan, who took over in December.

Hagan came to the Chamber from Wabash College, where she was associate director of career services. The Montgomery County native is president of the Montgomery County Leadership Academy and serves on the board of the Montgomery County Educational Foundation.

Another community leader took on a new role this year. Former Sheriff Mark Casteel became Montgomery County’s first administrator, overseeing day-to-day operations and the department heads.

Casteel is also tasked with preparing the yearly budget and providing regular spending updates to the commissioners and council.

“I’m looking forward to all of it. It’s all the things I enjoyed when I was sheriff,” Casteel said after he was named to the position in September.

Heading in to 2020, the Montgomery County United Fund has yet to name its next director following Terry Armstrong’s departure.
