New Ross celebrates with annual Community Day

NEW ROSS — The 13th annual Walnut Township Community Day is set for Saturday. This year’s theme is “Always Remember, Never Forget.”

The day will be a fun-filled event for the entire family starting at 8 a.m. and lasting until 9 p.m. There will be garage sales, 3 on 3 basketball tournament plus 3 point shooting contest, entertainment, pie baking contest and auction. There also will be free kids activities during the afternoon, car show, a parade, games and free face painting for the kids during the evening, bingo and 50/50 drawing.

A concession stand will be open during the entire event. Breakfast will be served at the New Ross Christian Church, plus lunch and dinner will be served at the Walnut Township Fire Station.

Vendor booth space is available. There is no charge for booth space. Contact Martha Janssen at 765-723-1543 for information. 

Registration for the seventh annual “3 on 3 Basketball Tournament” and a “3 point shooting contest” will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the New Ross basketball court in downtown New Ross. The 3 point shooting contest begins at 10 a.m. and the 3 on 3 basketball tournament begins immediately following the 3 point contest. The registration fee for the basketball tournament is $30 per team with an 18 and under age group plus a 19 and over age group. The basketball tournament winning team and the runner up will receive a cash prize for each age group. The registration fee for the 3 point shooting contest is $5. The 3 point shooting contest winner and the runner up receive a cash prize.

The seventh annual car, truck and motorcycle show also will take place Saturday. Registration fee is $15. Dash plaques will be given to the first 50 entries. This will be a judged event with trophies to “Top 30” and “Best of Show.” There also will be “People’s Choice Award” given. Music will be by “Fat Rat.” Contact Bonnie Rice at 765-723-1672 for information about the car show.

The New Ross Conservation Club will have its 4th annual Pie Baking Contest, with entries due by 1 p.m. at the main stage. Only fruit or nut pies accepted, no cream pies. Pies must be in an 8 or 9 inch disposable pie pan. Provide the recipe on an index card with your name, address and phone number on the back. Contact Janssen at 765-723-1543 for information.
