KINGMAN — A new chapter in education is beginning this fall in Fountain County with the opening of Freedom Schoolhouse, a Christian, back-to-basics school for young learners.

Opening in August, Freedom Schoolhouse will serve students in Kindergarten through second grade, with a strong focus on academic excellence, Christian values, and hands-on life skills.

Located in a quiet rural setting at 3612 E. C.R. 370E, Freedom Schoolhouse is designed to be a nurturing learning environment. With an enrollment cap of 25 students and a 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio, children will receive plenty of personal attention from licensed teachers and trained instructional aides in the one-room schoolhouse.

“We wanted to create a space where children can grow in their faith, their academics, and their character — all in one place,” said the school’s founder, Karlie Hesler. “Freedom Schoolhouse is about more than just textbooks. It’s about giving kids a richer educational experience that prepares them for life.”

The school’s approach includes time in the classroom as well as outdoor learning experiences. Children will help tend a school garden and greenhouse, care for farm animals, and even learn practical skills like cooking from scratch and food preservation. Nature-based learning is a key component of the curriculum, with enrichment opportunities such as hiking, fishing, and exploring the natural world built into the school year. All subjects — from math to science to social studies — are taught through a Biblical worldview.

Freedom Schoolhouse plans to expand each year to retain its current students as they grow, ensuring that no child will “age out” of the program. Freedom Schoolhouse is currently seeking community partners to help fund the transformation of its historic century-old building into a vibrant learning space. Support will go toward completing insulation and drywall and bringing to life the school’s vision for an outdoor learning center — including a greenhouse, garden beds, and a barn for animal care.

Enrollment is now open for the 2025–26 school year. Families interested in learning more can visit the school’s website at www.freedomschoolhouse.com or reach out directly for more information.
