WAYNETOWN — Christmas in the Park begins Saturday at the Rev. Guy Tremaine Park in Waynetown. The ninth annual celebration will mark the beginning of a park full of Christmas displays and visits from Santa through Dec. 23.
Families can visit with Santa from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. There will be treats and photo opportunities.
The lighting celebration will begin at 6 p.m. There will be special music by North Montgomery Middle School choir members and local resident Joyce Melvin. A reading of “T’was the Night Before Christmas” will take place and children will be asked to join Kevin Howey on the Freedom Stage for the reading.
Fireworks will be used to welcome the visitor from the North Pole right after the countdown is completed to turn on the approximately 70 Christmas displays throughout the park.
This year’s new main addition to the displays are 12 lighted figures that represents each day included in the “12 Days of Christmas” song.
Refreshments will be served by the local Cub and Boy Scouts.
Local businesses, churches, groups and residents provide the displays at the park.
“We believe our displays are better than ever,” said Daren Forman, Christmas in the Park committee member. “We know there will be people from far and wide who have made visiting our park to see the displays a priority and have made the visit a family tradition. We get a lot of compliments and it does say something how our community can come together to celebrate Christmas in such a good way.”
Visitors are asked to tune into Classic Hits 92.1 FM to enjoy holiday music while driving through the park. Many people choose to park at the aquatic center and walk through the park to enjoy the displays.
Sponsors for the event are the Town of Waynetown, Fountain Trust Company, Purple Sound Productions and Waynetown Merchants Association.
