LINDEN — The North Montgomery girls’ home basketball game against Park Tudor on Monday night was suspended at halftime for precautionary reasons due to COVID-19 concerns.
North Montgomery athletic director Matt Merica said the school was notified of a positive test to a person close to the basketball program, forcing the cancellation of the contest out of an abdundance of caution.
The Chargers trailed Park Tudor 27-18 at the half. Hadley Broadwater led the Chargers with eight points, all in the second quarter. Layla Gold, a sophomore, who returned 20 points per game for the Panthers from a 14-win season last year, had 11 points to lead Park Tudor.
Park Tudor grabbed a 17-6 lead after a quarter and extended it to 20-6 early in the second period on a 3-pointer by Halle Shelt. The junior knocked down a trio of first half 3-pointers.
The Chargers put up a fight though, outscoring the Panthers 12-7 in the last seven minutes of the half.
North Montgomery’s schedule will be updated in the coming days. The Chargers were originally scheduled to host Attica on Friday, before opening Sagamore Conference play next Tuesday at home against Frankfort. The annual Sugar Creek Classic is currently scheduled for Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21 at Southmont.
