North Montgomery School Board members approved two projects that will improve facilities.
The projects include paving around the middle school and renovating two bathrooms at the high school.
Price Excavating will re-pave the drive around the middle school and the parking area at a cost of $387,145.
The bathroom renovation project includes the male and female facilities located near door 12. These restrooms are the largest in the school and generally serve those attending athletic events in the gymnasium.
The $233,145 contract granted to Patterson Horth will be used to replace plumbing, walls and ceilings. The bathrooms will be gutted before the renovation can begin. The bathrooms are the last rooms to be renovated inside the school.
Money for both projects will come from the operations fund.
An additional $26,400 will be used to replace flooring in one classroom.
The board heard the first reading on the 2025-26 school calendar. Superintendent Dr. Colleen Moran informed the board that due to the date of Memorial Day in 2026, graduation will be May 23. The graduation date is one week earlier than when it usually is for the school corporation.
North Montgomery Middle School was the spotlight school. Eighth-grader Austin Campbell was the honorary board member.
The middle school’s Family Consumer Affairs Class gave a presentation on their classroom activities. The students prepared snacks after school on Monday and offered them to all in attendance.
In personnel business, the board:
• Approved the retirements of fifth-grade teacher Page McGaughey and Kindergarten teacher Alvin Enlow, effective May 27.
• Approved the resignation of middle school English teacher Nathaniel Hedrick.
• Approved the hiring of elementary teacher Bailey Barrentine.
