North school board OKs staff stipends

The North Montgomery School Board approved stipends for staff at a monthly board meeting Monday.

Receiving stipends are those who are employed through the first pay period and who will continue employment in 2021-22 and are rated as effective or highly effective.

“We have always tried to get as much money as possible into the hands of our employees,” North Montgomery Superintendent Colleen Moran said. “As we reached this year-end budget, we had two years under a new funding structure (Education and Operations Funds), the completion of an extensive renovation project and endured a pandemic since March. We found ourselves faced with a surplus in the Education Fund so want to that with one time stipends for employees.”

Stipends range from $500 to $1,500, depending on job classification.

In other business, the board:

• Accepted the resignation of North Montgomery High School social studies teacher Nick Dule.

• Approved the leave of absences for Erica Barclay, Ruth Teague, Kirby Dopkowski-Houghton and Susan Evertts.

• Approved the hiring of Pamela Bussell as a substitute bus driver; Matthew Ortman as a temporary math teacher at the high school; Brian Bone as a temporary technician for the district; Gabrielle Kerker as a temporary social studies teacher at the high school; and Stephanie Fehr as a food service/cafe monitor at Sommer Elementary.

• Approved the following extracurricular assignments: Megan Birk, high school musical choreographer; Mike Melvin, spring high school musical director; Kullen Bonebrake, volunteer high school wrestling coach; Andy Simpkins, middle school band; and Rob Earley, varsity softball coach as well as assistant coaches, Mitch and Skyler Earley, and volunteer assistant Megan Harshbarger.

• Approved on overnight field trip Feb. 5-7 for FFA officers participating in a leadership camp.

• Approved a transfer from the Operations Fund in the amount of $1,712,842.52 to the Rainy Day Fund.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting is set for 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at the district office.
