North to upgrade high school locker room

LINDEN — Locker rooms in the high school might be getting an update. Superintendent Dr. Colleen Moran told members of the school board at Monday that it is time to consider updating the present locker rooms.

“We have a 51-year span of the same locker rooms,” Moran said. “In 51 years our needs have changed. We did not have an athletic trainer and he needs more room. We are trying to be proactive. We have remodeled much of the high school and now we need to look into the locker rooms.”

Moran said the corporation will not have to take out a loan for the project and will be able to use funds in the Rainy Day Fund.

The board voted to approve Patterson & Horth to seek bids for the upgrade of the old locker rooms in the building. After the bids are received the board will review the cost and will make a decision on accepting the bids.

The board reviewed a tentative teacher contract that has been developed from discussions with the North Montgomery Teachers Association. Included in the new contract is a $3,000 pay raise for all teachers returning from the 2021-22 school year.

The board will approve the final contract at a later date when all negotiations are complete.

Moran said with so many new administrators in the corporation school buildings, she had asked for administrators to help write the new academic improvement plans for each building. The board reviewed the plans and approved them.

The board approved the following new hires: Brenda Kimple, substitute nurse for the district; Jamie Labbe, Sommer cafeteria monitor; Terri Flaurr, substitute bus driver for the district; Jennifer Duncan, Sommer instructional aide; Richard “Alan” Clifton, middle school exploratory teacher; Heather Hernandez, middle school receptionist; Tammie Messick, Sugar Creek instructional aide; Brooke Martin, food service substitute for the district; Melissa Waddell, substitute bus driver for the district; and Michele Threlkeld, middle school language arts teacher.

The board approved the transfer of Sarah Welcher from receptionist to bookkeeper/administrative assistant at the middle school.

The board also approved leave of absences for Linda Redmon, intermittent leave; Kalyn Neal from Nov. 1 to Dec. 13; Kandora Hargis from Sept. 14 through Oct. 7; and Robin Taguem intermittent leave.
