The Parke County REMC Multi-County Community Trust Board met on Sept. 10 and awarded $12,750 to six area nonprofits through the Operation Round Up program.
Isaiah 117 House was awarded $5,000 to help fund construction and purchase furniture for the house in Putnam County, which provides a safe haven for children entering foster care. Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society received $3,500 to help purchase platform beds, outdoor houses, and kennels to house additional animals and expand exterior space. Parke Players Inc. received $2,500 to help purchase new spotlights for their stage lighting project. Southmont Youth Football Program was awarded $750 to help purchase additional jerseys for their growing teams. North Putnam JAG was awarded $500 to help fund their community outreach activities, including stocking the school food pantry, the elementary book reading program, and charitable holiday events, as well as supporting career readiness and education materials. Covered Bridge Harmony was awarded $500 to help purchase new song arrangements and learning tracks for upcoming performances.
Thank you to the more than 9,000 Parke County REMC members who agree to have their monthly electric bills “rounded up” to the nearest dollar each month. This rounded-up money is then placed in the Multi-County Community Trust to be awarded by an all-volunteer Board of Parke County REMC members. Various non-profit groups, organizations, and individuals within Parke County REMC’s six-county service territory receive these grant monies.
The application deadline for the next cycle is Jan. 7, 2025. Nonprofit groups or organizations who are interested in applying for funds may obtain an application at Parke County REMC, www.pcremc.com, or by calling 765-569-3133 or 800-537-3913.
