Operation: Toy Box announces collection sites

Posted

Operation: Toy Box, now in it’s 27th year of providing that “one new toy under the tree,” has selected the following locations as collection sites for this year’s program. In this year of COVID-19 so many more children in our community are wondering if that special present will be under their tree on Christmas morning.

You can help by dropping off new, unwrapped toys at any of the following locations: Christi Hubler Chevrolet, Chase Bank, Crawfordsville Community Center, Creek Jewelers, Discovery Preschool, Indiana National Guard Armory, Journal Review, JTR Repair, Kroger, First Merchants Bank, Little Mexico, Savvy Chic, Stevenson’s Ace Hardware, The Paper of Montgomery County, Tri-County Bank (both locations) and Walgreen’s.

Factories, businesses, and civic organization are encouraged to make group collections from their employees or members. Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power and Home Depot are also collecting from employees at their locations.

As in the past, soldiers from the Crawfordsville unit of the Indiana Army National Guard have been busy getting things ready for this year’s toy drive. This year the Crawfordsville Kiwanis Club has joined with Operation Toy Box, to help provide that “one new toy under the tree”, to ensure that children throughout Montgomery County will have that joy come Christmas morning.

The local REINdear program, headquartered at the Youth Service Bureau, furnishes the names of eligible families. Each family will receive a notification letter from Operation: Toy Box with details concerning the date and times for toy distribution. They must bring that letter to the distribution site.

This year’s deadline for donations is Dec. 18. Guardsmen will be busy that day picking up the new toys at all the donation sites. Over the past 26 years, an estimated 6,300 children have received “new toys under their tree” thanks to Operation: Toy Box. Crawfordsville Kiwanis can be reached at 773-447-3458 to answer any questions about the program and how to donate money in lieu of toys.
