Oralia “Arlene” G. Painter, 80, of Crawfordsville passed away at 7:14 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, after a short battle with COVID pneumonia.

She was born Oct. 15, 1940, at Hughes, Arkansas, to Luther and Ester Gonzalez.

Arlene married James I. Painter on July 14, 1962, at Waukegan, Illinois. James preceded her in death Dec. 24, 2013. She was a member of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church since 1968, an officer of the Anna Harter Walter Women’s Association and a long-time member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, reading, playing bridge and spending time with her grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by her four daughters, Pamela (Neil) Karle, Crawfordsville, Elizabeth (Steven) Howen, Austin, Texas, Amy Walls, Crawfordsville and Amber (Michael) Pfotenhauer, Greenwood; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren: brother Homer (Jinx) Gonzalez, Bailey, Colorado; sisters, Olga Early, Glendale, Arizona, Linda (Joe) Levay, Portland, Oregon, and Mary Martinez, Glendale, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband James; parents Luther and Ester; and brothers, Charlie, Alex and Jimmy.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. ET Jan. 23 Sanders Priebe Funeral Home, with Dr. John Van Nuys officiating. Family and friends may attend the services virtually via a live-stream. The link for the services can be found on her obituary page at www.sandersfuneralcare.com.
