Otis Duane Cornett, 66, of Crawfordsville passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, at home while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 21, 1954, at Crawfordsville, to the late Otis and Lilly Mae (Sturman) Cornett.
Duane attended Crawfordsville High School and on Feb. 19, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Crane, who survives. He worked at Crown Cork & Seal as a press operator for 43 years. He loved to fish, take long rides in the evening and watch deer, taking vacations with his boys, shooting guns and his cannon, was always on the phone talking, was a man of faith, he never met a stranger, and was always a comedian. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by wife Peggy; sons, Ben (Sayrah) Cornett and Derek Cornett; daughter Christy (Chris) Horbach; eight grandchildren, Austin (Jake), Trevor, Chandler, Xavier, Mason, Scarlett, Katie and Corbin; three great-grandchildren, Bristol, Nova and Kasen; four siblings, Connie (Jerry) Perkins, Randy (Laurel) Cornett, Gerald (Linda) Cornett and Donald Jo Cornett; uncle Wayne Bell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Travis Cornett; sister Betty J. Strunk New; brother Steve Cornett; and two aunts, Beulah Toney and Magnollie Bell.
Cremation was chosen with a celebration of life at New Hope Christian Church, 2746 U.S. 231, Crawfordsville on Saturday, Jan. 30 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service 4 p.m. The service will be live-streamed and recorded which can be viewed on Duane’s obituary page at www.sandersfuneralcare.com.
