Patton takes on dual roles at PHHS

Though he may not be scheduling athletic events this year, Bruce Patton has found that his scheduling techniques have helped him in his new role as transportation director and dean of students. Patton comes to North Central Parke Schools from Attica schools where he served as the athletic director.

Patton is responsible for assigning the bus routes to drivers as well as scheduling extra curricular activities and field trips.

“There are a lot of moving parts with the buses. As a corporation, we must work out what’s best for the safety of our students,” Patton said. “We have a driver shortage which makes the bus routes challenging. We have drivers from other routes picking up students to make sure they get to school.”

He has also worked with the state transportation director from the Indiana Department of Education to make sure that student pick up and drop off patterns at the schools are safe for students and drivers.

In his role as dean of students, he is getting to know the students by being a presence in the hallways during lunch and passing periods.

“I want to be a liaison person to all students and especially new students,” Patton said. “I hope to be someone that they can come to when they have questions, need help with something or want guidance.”

Patton has also been helping to tag team discipline issues with PHHS Athletic Director Rich Schelsky.
