‘Pet tree’ gift drive continues for shelter animals

Posted

Festive trees on display at a local pet store again serve as a beacon for a brighter holiday for shelter animals.

For a seventh year, Roberta Bowman of Crawfordsville is organizing a supply drive at Pet Supplies Plus.

Donors select a gift tag or bag featuring a photo of a shelter animal. The purchased supplies are placed under the tree along with the selected tag or bag. The store also donates supplies.

The items are delivered to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County in Crawfordsville, Home for Friendless Animals near Waynetown and Creekside Animal Rescue near Roachdale.

The wish list includes any kind of dog or cat food, dog or cat treats, leashes or collars, water bowls, blow dryers, dog or cat shampoo, nail clippers, hand sanitizer, trash cans, dog and cat beds, crates and cages, toys, blankets or sheets, etc.

“We’ll take anything, because the shelters are in need,” Bowman said.

Donations typically exceed expectations. Monetary contributions are also accepted.

“Each day at the pet store our pile of donated items becomes larger and larger,” she said. “It seems like just saying ‘thank you’ is not enough, but we do thank everyone who donates.”

Bowman also extends a special thanks to the store manager and all the employees who help make the pet supply drive possible.

“Please come see our beautiful trees representing all of our loving fur friends,” Bowman said.

Pet Supplies Plus is located at 1530 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville.
