PH conducts spring concert

The Parke Heritage High School and Middle School music departments held their Spring Concert and Awards Program on May 7 in the high school cafetorium.

This was the first live concert for the sixth grade band. They performed the songs, “Regal March” and “Jus’ Plain Blues.” Awards were presented to Kody Cheesman - Most Improved Award, Carly Newnum and Caylum Wills - MVP Award and Lucas Hutchens - Band Dedication Award.

The next group to perform was the middle school choir. They sang the songs, “Dansi Na Kuimba” and “Joshua Fit the Battle.” Earning awards were Novel Crabtree - Most Improved Award; Shelby Robertson - MVP Award and Ella Lacy- Dedication Award.

The seventh and eighth grade band played the songs, “Northwest Territory,” “Canticum” and “Wipe Out.” Earning the Most Improved Awards were Tucker Conley and Justin Cooper. Drew Hybarger was named the band MVP and Treyton Burgess received the Dedication Award.

“Cantar,” “Danny Boy” and “Benedictus” were the songs sung by the high school choir members. Kaitlyn McMichael earned the Most Improved Award. Jenna McVay received the MVP Award and Shana Stafford earned the Dedication Award.

The final group to perform for the night was the high school band. Their songs included, “Blue Ridge Saga,” “Air for Band” and “Last Ride of the Pony Express.” Earning awards were Lucas Branson - Most Improved Award, Abigail Nicholas - MVP Award and Ashlyn Hybarger - Dedication Award. The John Philip Sousa Award was presented to Alexa Blackwell.

Senior members of the band were also recognized. These members are Ericka Clodfelter, Ammalee McCall, Abigail Nicholas and Alexa Blackwell.

The music director is Juliana Johnson. Accompanist was Jason Allen.
