Phyllis Dickerson Baker passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, in Indianapolis, at the age of 89.
She was born Dec. 15, 1931, and spent her childhood in Ladoga, with her parents Floyd and Hazel Dickerson and her siblings, Betty Jean, Martha Jo and Richard Dickerson. Phyllis went to Ladoga High School and attended both Butler and Ball State universities where she excelled in music.
Her passion for music followed the rest of her life as she became a member of several singing groups that performed regularly. The most notable was Hot Cocoa in Cocoa Beach Florida. She was an active member of the Cocoa Beach Community Church serving as president of the board and singing in the church choir.
Phyllis spent her final years at Robin Run Retirement Community in Indianapolis, where she was a member of their choir. Her proudest achievement was her professional career at the Kennedy Space Center where she worked as an alert specialist on the shuttle contract. She received many special achievement awards for her service.
Phyllis is survived by sons, Greg Baker of Ocala, Florida, and Brad Baker of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Kinzie Baker and Samuel Landis; and brother Richard Dickerson.
Due to COVID-19, a memorial service celebrating Phyllis’s life will be held at a later date at the Cocoa Beach Community Church.
