A distressed kayaker was safely removed Saturday from Sugar Creek by officers with the Crawfordsville Police Department.
A post on the department’s social media page recounted the incident and thanked those who assisted.
Crawfordsville police and fire personnel were dispatched at 5:47 p.m. Saturday to the area of the Sugar Creek Nature Park near the power plant. A caller reported a male passed out on his kayak with his face nearly in the water. Officers Larry Bittinger, Randy Newell and Kamden Hoycus responded, as well as the Crawfordsville Fire Department.
Keeping the Sugar Creek current in mind, Bittinger responded through Elston Park on foot, and Newell and Hoycus responded on the department’s four-wheelers through Sugar Creek Nature Park.
Through swift action and teamwork between the departments, the kayaker was located, taken to shore and medically evaluated.
CPD thanks the fire department and Montgomery County Central Communications for their assistance.
