Post 72 was just a few runs short of having a great weekend. With two one run losses and a tie, the local team ended the Terre Haute Invitational with a record of 1-2-1.
The tourney started Thursday with a 2-1 loss against Terre Haute.
On Friday, the team tied Eureka, Missouri 4-4.
Trailing 4-0 going into the fifth innings, Post 72 tied the score on four straight hits and a successful squeeze bunt by Aiden Ambriz-Cruz knotted the game at 4 runs apiece.
The game ended due to a time limit.
The second Friday game ended with Post 72 winning 10-6 over Madison in another time limit affair.
New roster addition Keaton Brown of North Montgomery was asked to join the team after a medical injury forced a player to decide not to play baseball this summer. Brown was immediately thrown into the mix as the starting pitcher.
Brown pitched three shutout innings but was relieved in the fourth inning when a Post 72 errors turned into six runs, three of which were unearned.
Ambriz-Cruz came into the game with two outs in the fourth and promptly struck out the Madison batter.
Post 72 was led offensively by Aiden Riser who was 2-for-3 at the plate, scored three runs with an RBI. Brown had a 2-RBI single.
The local squad stole 10 bases with Riser and Brown stealing three bases apiece.
On Saturday, Post 72 lost 5-4 on a walk off single by Princeton.
The back-and-forth game went into extra innings when Jackson Warner hit a two out 1-RBI double to knot the score at 4-4.
Princeton, with two outs, had a single and a double to bring home the winning run.
Brown led Post 72 with two of the team’s six hits.
Post 72 (6-4-1) plays Clay County at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at North Montgomery High School. There is no admission charge to attend a home game.
