Post 72 loses and ties

Post 72 kicked off the Terre Haute Invitational on Thursday and came away with no wins in two games losing one and tying the other.

In the first game, the local Legion team lost to Terre Haute 2-1. Post 72 could not get a big hit when they needed it.

Terre Haute broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning. Post 72 tied the game in the top of the sixth inning when Dylan Ford singled home courtesy runner Landon Duncan.

Terre Haute scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on three straight singles.

Post 72 pitcher Aiden Riser went the distance and surrendered seven hits while allowing two runs including one earned run.

In the second game, Post 72 used a big four-run fifth inning to tie Eureka, Missouri by a score of 4-4.

Riser led off the rally with a single followed by a single by Duncan. Ford singled in Riser and Matt Miller got the fourth consecutive hit to Duncan to make the score 4-3 in favor of the Missouri team.

Aiden Ambriz-Cruz tied the score with a squeeze play scoring Cale Chadd.

Post 72 shortstop Carlos Lopez hit a double in the final at-bat but was stranded at third base.

Charlie Belcher took the loss for Post 72 by pitching three innings and giving up four runs on three hits. Duncan and Drake Hoffa each pitched two innings with Hoffa allowing Eureka’s only hit recorded in the final four innings.

Post 72 (5-3-1) continued play in the tournament on Friday against Madison in a must-win game. If Crawfordsville wins, they will advance to Saturday’s final rounds.
